How To Install Diablo 2 Expansion Without Cd
One easy way to get it is to just register your CD key with blizzard. You are then able to download diablo 2 free from them with the latest updates and patch, and you don't need the cd to play. Someone had my cd's, but luckily i kept the cd sleeve where the game key was.
I first tried to install Diablo 2 LOD from an iso image using acetone iso. However, after acetone iso mounted the image, it said 'Please install the labelled disc'.
Ghostcast network drivers. I then tried with Gmount, and, following advice I received from some forums, I attempted to create mount points and then install; after it mounted the image, it installed the first three disc images but not the expansion.
When I tried to play, it told me to insert the labelled disc, even though the iso image was still mounted with Gmount. How can I resolve this problem?

In order to configure Diablo II to read the CD, you have to change Wine propierties (I assume that you are using Wine because it is impossible otherwise) and change the letter of the CD drive linking it to the iso mounted.
If not, use another .exe to run the program ;)
Install PlayOnLinux and use that, It even comes with it's own wine bottle system, similar to Crossover. It makes it easy to edit the registry for better performance, and it even comes with nifty installation scripts. I also use furius iso mount, to mount my isos. It's in the USC.
From what I've read about Diablo it's not designed to run on linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu, however, you can probably run it if a .exe or .msi file is available for its installation by use of wine.
BH2017BH2017Open winecfg. Go to Drives tab, there you should map path of your mount point to correct drive (D:).
According to WineHQ you should be able to run it.
So you should install, open terminal and type:
Let the installer finish installing Wine.
And now you can insert the dialbo disk and run the .exe
And if you legally bought Diablo 2 LOD you should have a downloadable alternative on battle.net, which should not ask for a cd when installed.
And you could always download a crack, desperate times ask for desperate solutions.

Wine will now install diablo 2 to it's 'c' drive, which is located in your home folder with the name '.wine'. This folder is hidden by default.

I had an XP machine I played D2 on and ran it without using the CD which I thought was a great thing. I now have a Windows 8.1 machine that I had to use compatibility mode for D2 to run. I got it to run in a window but it still makes me use the CD (I HATE using the CD to play the game).
How do I get it back to that? I had to download the patch from battle.net and installed it to v113.d immediately. Is there some other thing I missed? I thought all newer patches had everything up to that point inside them. Do I have to install a different patch?

If the game is properly patched and running with admin permissions, it shouldn't require a CD. Have you right clicked on the game and selected Run as Admin?

- If all required Diablo 2 '.MPQ' files are installed on the
hard drive, the game will no longer require the CD to play.
For users that originally performed a 'Full Installation'
and wish to run without the CD, all '.MPQ' files should
be copied from the Diablo 2 CDs to the Diablo 2 directory.
Most users will only need to copy D2Music.mpq from the
Diablo 2 Play CD and/or D2xMusic.mpq from the Lord of
Destruction CD. Mac users will need to copy these music
files and rename them to 'Diablo II Music' and
'Diablo II Expansion Music' respectively.
Anyone who did not perform a 'Full Installation' will need
to re-install from CD again to ultimately play without the CD.
In this case, a 'Full Installation' is required, followed by file
copy step noted above.
To avoid this in the future, I advise you to register the game CD-key to your Battle.net account (the one you used to post on these forums) and download the client from here:

Moving those files around is only required if you're installing from a CD. If you've registered the game to your Battle.net account and download the game files, it's no longer an issue. Everything is downloaded into the right play to play without a CD.

My guess is you had a previous installation of the game perhaps and a registry entry is still trying to use that version of the game.
Using the Windows regedit utility, delete the following key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREBlizzard EntertainmentDiablo II
Then uninstall and reinstall the games using the digital installers you downloaded.

Easiest way, on win10, could be the same on win7 and 8 and 8.1, here not running as admin
Put the CD in, go in the folder where the setup and installation.exe is and copy D2xVideo.mpq and D2xMusic.mpq into the d2 folder and bam no cd required
I just yesterday paid for the digital copy off the website and when i try to play the game it gives me an error saying the game doesn't exist and that i need to re download it to make sure it was fully complete. I deleted and re downloaded it twice now, has anybody else run into this problem and or now how to fix it?
Many problems with the digital copy, the best is with the CD no issues, never had one issue with it and now i found a way to play without the cd !
